Don Alaman is a trailblazer on the land, in the skies, and on the seas.

Captain Don, as he is affectionately known, was born to be a captain. He started out as a captain of championship football, wrestling, and track teams in both high school and college. After graduating from Cal Berkeley on an athletic scholarship he was promoted to the coaching staff of the men’s football team; ask him about the last time he was on the field, during “the play” of ’82!

In 1985 he took a leap of faith to follow his lifetime dream of flying, and became a captain of the sky. He spent his 40 year career as a pilot working for both private and commercial airlines, as well as offering private flight instruction to support those coming up behind him.
In 2005 he achieved a second lifelong goal of becoming a captain of the sea and has sailed boats ranging from 27 feet up to 65 feet in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

Don's incredible life shows that the principles that make a great athlete, a great coach, a great pilot, and a great boat captain are the same; dedication, attention to detail, positive audacity, concentration, jubilance for life, and a little insanity.
Captain Don has been a pioneer in the aerodynamic and aeronautic spaces, and takes great pride in being one of the first African American commercial pilots in the United States and one of the only 1% of Black American households to own a boat.
